I already love African music, so why wouldn’t I love African fashion? Ankara just means the type of printed fabric covered in tribal-like patterns and prints, but actually originated in the Netherlands – how funny is that? These gorgeous fabrics have been a massive part of the African culture and fashion for what seems forever, and yet it was the Dutch who introduced it to various African ports on their way to Indonesia, and the rest was history.
There are endless patterns, colour palettes, prints and shapes of all sorts to inspire not only the global fashion scene, but creatives like you and I who are always on the lookout for fresh ideas and inspiration.
Below is a moodboard I quickly put together showcasing a few of my latest favourites, and as you can see, the photo in the main graphic inspired that entire art piece. Aren’t the colours gorgeous?
If you’re feeling stuck for inspiration, be sure to type ‘Ankara’ into Pinterest and check it out!
Have an awesome week guys.
